SPI AWARDED CONTRACT TO CONDUCT REGULATORY ASSESSMENT & SLOT VALUATION STUDY

SPI was selected by a major satellite operator with a global fleet of satellites to conduct a regulatory assessment and valuation of 20 different geostationary orbital slots with varying combinations of frequency bands (Planned and non-Planned).  The regulatory assessment was conducted to determine the probability of coordination and the amount of filed spectrum that the satellite operator could reasonably expect to coordinate within the coverage area for each frequency band.  The valuation was conducted to determine the potential “sale value” for each slot, based on the strength of its regulatory assessment and recent transaction benchmarks for similar slots; and alternatively, to determine the “development value” for each slot, based on highest and best use, i.e., an HTS or conventional satellite optimized for the available frequencies, bandwidth and coverage area, regional market assumptions regarding supply and demand, as well as ramp-up, fill-factor and pricing.  SPI, in coordination with subcontractors the Summit Ridge Group and Telecomm Strategies, conducted the regulatory, technical and financial assessments, and developed the databases, engineering and financial models for this exercise.
