SPI is pleased to announce that, on November 9, 2018, the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 was handed over by Thales Alenia Space to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) after SPI’s certification of successful completion of all required on-orbit tests.
This completed all of SPI’s contractual requirements for the delivery in orbit of Bangladesh’s first satellite, which can now provide services to all national TV stations, VSATs, and other services like broadband, eLearning, telemedicine, and so on in Bangladesh and the surrounding region.
We are very proud to have been the lead consultant of this project from its onset and to have brought Bangladesh into the Space Age. This satellite brings the country one step closer to fulfilling the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT Advisor to bridge the Digital Divide.
We would like to thank the hard-working teams of the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications and IT, BTRC, Thales Alenia Space, Spectra, SpaceX that worked on the program alongside SPI.
